Thought the following might be of interest to cylinder musical box
collectors. Two high quality overture boxes were sold this week at
auction in Central England. The first was a very nice 3 overture
Nicole Freres (fully restored) musical box, 32,000 series, and it
brought a reasonable amount of £4,960 pounds, inclusive of buyer's
premium.
The second was a LeCoultre and Falconnet Grand Format, serial number
781, circa 1840-1841, playing four overtures as reflected on silver
tune plaque, with approximately 235 teeth and cylinder dimensions
of 15" x 4". It was not in playable condition at the time of sale,
nevertheless it brought about £40,000, inclusive of buyers premium.
There were some 6 or 7 bidders aggressively trying to acquire that
musical box.
