The re-start of the restoration of my Steger action has been going
along smoothly, and this afternoon when I tested the stack with the
pneumatics attached plus the primary pouch board screwed down tight
(and a piece of tape covering the tracker-holes on the top front of
the primary board), most of the notes went down when they should have
stayed up. To be perfectly clear, I had tested the stack yesterday,
without the primary board, and all 82 notes went fully down, proving
that the new valve facings were sealing correctly.
Even when I undid the tape on those same "staying up" notes that
corresponded to their particular pouches/valves in the primary board,
they did not go down. I believe that the old primary board needs
regulation of its valves, but with my current work schedule, I cannot
afford to spend more expense than is absolutely necessary on this
restoration.
Therefore, I am asking if anybody has a spare, _working_ primary
valve/pouch board from a _working_ double-valve action, please notify
me as soon as possible. This would be greatly appreciated.
The main original stack is good. I have personally tested it and the
amount was no less than 29 inches (no primary board attached). I can
do a primary board retrofit fairly easily, and am not concerned about
the trouble involved in doing so.
Again, if _anyone_ can help out on this, I thank you in advance!
