I recently bought a Wendt & Kühn wooden painted music box via
an online auction house bidding site within the UK. Part of the
temptation of the lot was that it was advertised as made in 1880.
Unfortunately I did not really research Wendt & Kühn until after
buying but before collecting, and discovered that the company began
operations in 1915 or about 35 years after the advertised date of
manufacture.
I have printed the company history and presented it to the auctioneer
on paying for the lot, I have yet to receive a reply, although they
insisted they had researched the description. I am still quite pleased
with this manivelle and when restored it will be something a little
different.
