3D Printing of Player Piano Parts
By S. Lee Walker
To all rebuilders of mechanical music instruments -- I just viewed on
the Internet a 3D printing video and watched the author make several
parts which were drawn from a 3D CAD program. This drawing was used
to make the part on the 3D printer. In less than two hours the part
was made. Just type in web page search: 3D Printing tutor tube.
Several years ago it became impossible to find parts to restore
older vintage automobiles like Model T's and Model A's. These parts
can now can be made by CNC programming machines at lower cost. Once
a digital 3D CAD drawing is made it can be downloaded to any machine
shop.
There has been many new business established making parts. Also, 3D
printing technology is starting to expand. How about player pianos?
Has any rebuilder looked into this?
