Dear Everyone, Ray Bauer makes an interesting point, but there's more
to it than that. "Once upon a time", music was music; if it was good,
everyone, in general, listened to it. In Benny Goodman's "heyday" in
the late 1930s, for example, people of all ages enjoyed his stuff.
But an industry was developed specifically to foster the notion among
"The Young" that anyone older than their "Generation" (a misnomer:
there are no such things as "generations") is an idiot! And all they
like "corny", "square", "not hip" or etc..
This is so that the sellers of cheaply made crud can get "The Young" to
pay for it, and thereby become rich. An excellent documentary on this
was shown on PBS some years ago, called "The Merchants of Cool". Please
"enjoy": http://youtu.be/HVbexlXN6Rw
