Last December, The Lady Liberty Chapter of AMICA invited National
Carousel Association member Barbara Charles to speak. I remembered
her from the program "Colorado's Historic Carousels" which I watched
extensively while an infant and preteen.
She told us that the Dr. Floyd Moreland Carousel at Casino Pier in
Seaside Heights, New Jersey, is still owned by Vincent Storino and
family and that the town of Seaside is planning to build a separate
housing for the carousel and the band organ to be moved into.
Also, AMICA will be raising at least $600.00 to have Durward Center
of Baltimore, Maryland, come scrutinize the poorly-maintained Wurlitzer
146A band organ with bells that were constructed by Bill Kromer and was
meticulously restored in 1999 by retired dentist Bill Black along with
help from Mike Kitner shortly before he died.
