Hi there, In response to my request for help in identifying the
photos in my musical photo album (necessaire) [170115 MMDiges],
I received several replies. In addition to my friends Chuck Walker
and Alan Mueller (who should certainly know a Kaiser when he sees
one), I heard from Eric Stott, who supplied some names from an
Internet search.
Then I heard from Dennis Tucker. Dennis appears to be the publisher
of Q. David Bowers' many books on coins. Dave referred my inquiry
to Dennis because he has an interest in the Hohenzollern family and
royal imperial Germany. Dennis supplied the names of the four men
in the pictures and said that the women were their wives. A little
searching on the Internet found the names of the wives.
So I now know the names of all of in the eight photos in my musical
photo album/necessaire. Many thanks to all who helped and to Robbie
and Jody who facilitate the communication.
Last week I visited a professional ephemera conservator for advice
on how to proceed with respect toward restoring the book itself. He
referred me to another local conservator who specializes in restoring
the bindings of antique books. He is going to re-attach the covers
and clean up the binding. I hate to think of what it will cost, but
I'm sure he'll do a good job.
While I was visiting his studio, he showed me a two-volume dictionary
from around 1500 that he is restoring. In addition to the definitions
for each word, it has several examples of famous people who used the
word in something they wrote. The two books are worth about $70,000
so I think he can handle my little music box. Here's a picture for
the archives.
