Over the past few weeks, there were several postings in response to a question about using wireless MIDI players via Bluetooth to play an instrument. I have several instruments with optional MIDI systems, so I've used most of the wireless players as well as wired players. I'm pleased to report I have a new favorite, the "Brotech Mega Midi Sequencer (MMS)."
With this player, any concerns about questionable Bluetooth connections seem to disappear. It uses a "white box" as a Bluetooth receiver that mates to your instrument with a standard MIDI cord. The box is placed close to your instrument for an easy physical connection. The box has a slot for a standard SD card, where your music is stored. Your music on the SD card, in MIDI Type 0 format, can be in a set of directories that can easily be updated at any time on your computer.
The transmitter is a simple, inexpensive Amazon Fire tablet that connects via Bluetooth to the white box receiver near the instrument. When the system starts up, just activate the application on the tablet, let it make a simple, quick, Bluetooth connection, and your music, by directory, is quickly loaded on the screen. Using simple touch-screen controls, you can play, stop, change Tempo, and load any other file or directory quickly with your fingers. I've been in another nearby room, and still made a perfect connection.
The developer, Michael Falco of Brotech Electronics, is also a user with his band organ, "Celebration", so he made many early hardware and software improvements through his and the feedback of others.
I've been quite impressed with the unit and the performance and response of the company. In my judgment, this is now the MIDI player of choice. More information here: http://www.brotechelectronics.com/
