FS Free: Orphan Organ Barrels, Spirally Pinned
By William Edgerton
I acquired four orphan organ barrels with another organ I purchased.
These barrels are 6-3/8" diameter by 31-1/16" (the main part) plus
a wooden gear with 49 teeth, 1-1/2" thick by 5" diameter, plus the
center rod sticks out the gear end 3-1/2" and the other end about 1".
The barrels are spirally pinned in 14-1/2 revolutions (or 15).
The barrels show their age and the paper covering on the surface
is stained but the pins look good and the arrangements appear to be
complex. These have been in storage in Mahopac, New York, for at least
30 years and were previously owned by Bernie Zipkin who was a picker
and hoarder. No charge if you can use them or re-purpose them.
