Dear MMDers, Would you be interested in purchasing state-of-the-art anti-disc corrosion envelopes for the conservation of your musical box steel discs? VCI storage packets are well proven products in metallurgy (used for decades for fine engineering product protection, as well as for military hardware).
In order to make this commercially viable, I need to try and find a few people who will come together to order some sleeves. For now, I'd like to order a run for Polyphon 19-5/8-inch discs, but if this goes well, it can be extended to other manufacturers and disc sizes.
The packet will comprise of a durable, high quality, kraftboard (onto which can be printed the Polyphon logo), folded to form a record "envelope", and within which there will be a modern (safe) VCI anti-corrosion tough plastic film giving at least 5 years protection (although I've been told the effective period is likely to be years longer than this with infrequent usage of discs). At the end of 5 (or more years), the VCI film can be easily and more cheaply replaced and so the disc sleeve can be re-used.
The cost is approximately £18.56 per sleeve, plus P&P. However, if I can get a group of us together, the cost could come down significantly with a larger order. If you're interested, please get in touch and let me know how many and what size steel discs you have.
Many thanks,
