Larry and others on MMD, If one considers a Steinway the
"Cadillac" [of pianos] then the George Steck grand piano would
have been considered the "Chevrolet" of the Duo-Art clan.
I once owned a 5'4" 1922 Steck grand that had a delightful
"signature" and sounded better than a neighbor's Steinway XR.
(A pianos "signature", as per piano techs, is akin to a persons
"personality" -- you either like it/them or not.)
When Horowitz toured the Steinway factory to select a 9'6" Steinway
instrument he is rumored to have viewed a dozen or more before the
final selection -- Ahh!, its "signature"!
