Coinola Duplex Midget Has Two Roll Frames
By Don Teach
I thought I would try to see if I could send pictures via my iPad to
MMD. Today's pictures are of a Coinola Duplex Midget. I think this is
the only complete original example of this model known. This elusive
model allowed the patron to select one of two tunes before depositing
money. It plays the A-roll. Several collectors had speculated how
this machine worked with the two rolls. It can only play either the
left roll or the right roll. When a roll comes to the end then the
machine has to rewind that roll before it can play a second tune. If
there are several tunes already in the accumulator waiting to be played
then only the roll that was first selected can play. You can only
select between the two rolls when the machine is not in use. As soon
as the power is applied then a locking pin locks the roll that was
selected into use and the other roll cannot be played until the power
is off. Confused?
