Re "For sale on the Internet"
By Jochen Schäfer

Dear MMD community, for two weeks I am a subscriber of this forum,
and some things happened, for example the change of website to solve
the "antique" technical problems (from 1997). Many thanks for this.

In the section, "For sale on the Internet" [at the end of the e-mail
version of MMDigest], I note that the items are only combined with
images, not with sound samples. You know that I am blind, and blind
people can't do anything with images. So when blind people are
interested in items of mechanical music, they need sound examples to
find out about the sound quality. This is nothing special for blind
people.

Also for you as sighted persons, the sound is the most important thing
according to mechanical musical instruments. On an image or picture,
you can find out much about the quality of the case and other components
(for example the comb of a music box), but you don't know, how the
instrument sounds. The sound quality can be different to the image.

I think the best solution would be to upload videos, where you have
both, the images and sounds of the instruments, like I do on my YouTube
channels. This doesn't have to be on YouTube only, you can also attach
files (MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, etc.). Another solution could be to attach
a sound file (MP3, WAV, OGG, WMA, etc.) in addition to the images.

Best collector's regards from Germany,

Jochen Schäfer, also known as Jochen Kopf

[ Jochen, the links given in the section, "For sale on the
[ Internet", lead to external web pages (such as eBay and
[ Craigslist) which aren't associated with MMDigest. However,
[ you can enjoy listening to our small collection of recorded
 [ sounds at http://www.mmdigest.com/Gallery/Sounds/index.html
