From late this morning to around 3 o'clock in the afternoon, I was
trying to figure out what was the problem with the wind motor for
the Aeolian stack. It had suddenly started to miss and sometimes
not hardly go at all.
First, I readjusted the slide valves. That didn't help. Then I
put new graphite on both of the surfaces. Little to no improvement
happened. After a couple times of "screw back onto stack, take back
off and adjust," I was beginning to get annoyed.
Maybe, I thought, the Reblitz book says something about this
mysterious problem. There sure was: the first set of the three
bellows on the motor was leaking. I patched the hole and that motor
worked like a charm!
All I can say is, if there is ever a time when one has run out of
ideas about what might be wrong with their player, look in the book,
"Player Piano Servicing and Rebuilding", by Arthur Reblitz. It sure
worked for me this time!
