Improved HTTPS Support for the MMD Website
By Jody Kravitz
There is a lot of focus lately on using HTTPS (secure HTTP) for
all connections on the Internet. The MMD website has supported
the use of secure HTTP for some time now, but my browser never
gave me the "Green Lock -- All OK" display in the past.
Two issues have now been resolved and I now execpt that all
connections to the MMD website using https: instead of http:
should give everyone a "properly protected" indication from their
browser.
For those interested in the techno-triva, the MMD website was
referencing JPG images displayed on the page without https even
when the page itself was specified with https.
Anyone reading this is welcome to try changing any MMD website
URL to HTTPS. For example try changing
http://www.mmdigest.com/Archives
to
https://www.mmdigest.com/Archives
This should give you the "locked" (usually a green mark to the
left of your address bar in the browser).
An additional change has been made so that entries typed without
the "www" will be refreshed with the same address with "www" added.
In the past, using HTTPS and leaving the "www" off produced a
security error message from the browser. I obtained an improved
"website security certificate" to correct this.
If no problem reports come in, I'm going to eventually switch
the MMD to automatically switch to https using a refresh rule.
Hoping for all positive reports!
