Extra Control Lever on Mason & Hamlin Ampico

A Mason & Hamlin Ampico piano offered for sale in Atlanta has an
additional lever on the left side control panel, located between the
manual expression buttons and the On-Off lever.

This lever does not exist on my late model (1928) Mason & Hamlin Ampico
piano and I have never noticed it on any other Model A Ampico.  I would
like to know what function this extra lever performs.
