In MMD160630 Jim Quashnock asked, "Has anyone ever used Organ Supply
Industries Silicone Leather Conditioner, a silicone solution that
comes already diluted?"
I work for Organ Stop Pizza here in Mesa, Arizona, and I saw a can of
this very OSI product in the chemical storage cabinet a few years ago.
Having not used it before, and having just finished rebuilding a dozen
Wurlitzer organ secondary pneumatics, I thought I would try it since
I didn't have any naphtha for thinning the rubber cement.
I tested two of the pneumatics for air tightness before application
and then carefully painted the silicon solution on the two pneumatics.
The leather turned fairly dark after doing so. After about 30 seconds
I tested the pneumatics a second time. I had a hard time determining
if they had been sealed at all.
The leather I was using at the time was the thin, tanned CTL product
from Columbia Organ Leather because I didn't have any medium CTS
leather in stock. This thin CTL leather can be very porous so maybe
this is why it didn't seal very well.
