Hi. There is a very good MIDI file editing software program, called
"Noteur", especially for music for mechanical music instruments. By
defining the scale of your music instrument or using the many available
predefined instruments, Noteur shows you which notes will be used by
your instrument and which not (greyed out). For a print/screen see
http://draaiorgelweb.nl/software/notscre.htm
Also, Noteur has its own MIDI Programming Language called MPL
(comparable with the CAL routines of Cakewalk). After making your
own routine you can place it under a function button. The amount of
function buttons can be adjusted in the settings and can be more
than 60!
The programmer of this masterpiece is Piet Paardekam, who is also the
programmer of "Midiboek", a software program which produces templates
for cardboard music books, music rolls or discs and can also be used as
a source for controlling punching machines. Both programs are really
free and can be obtained at http://draaiorgelweb.nl/software/index.htm
