Musical Box Cylinder is Stuck
By Richard Krasowski Jr.
Hello Friends: I am working on a single cylinder music box that has
the snail gear that shifts the cylinder to the left to play another
song selection. After carefully removing the comb, and then the
cylinder and shaft, I cannot get the cylinder to move on the shaft.
There is a space between the cylinder and the snail gear -- the
cylinder will not move left or right. I have used a small amount of
penetrating oil on the shaft at the ends of the cylinder and also on
the retaining pin. While holding the cylinder in my hand, I have used
a gentle pry with wooden shims and _very_ gentle taps on the end of
the shaft with a jewelers hammer... but nothing!
I don't want to damage the resin or pins, of course. Any advice would
be helpful. Thanks in advance for your kind help.
