I love collecting and reading mechanical music catalogues from the
'seventies from such businesses as Hathaway and Bowers, Mackinnon,
etc. They are an invaluable but extremely tantalising research aid.
In one such catalogue, there is a particularly fascinating item for
sale: a sizeable stack of manuscripts and annotated music containing
arrangements for Aeolian Pipe Organ Rolls. I have often wondered what
became of this amazing piece of musical history; Do these arrangements
still exist, I wonder; Are they documented, or available for study?
Does anyone know what happened to these manuscripts? I would be most
interested to know, and would be most grateful if anyone reading this
has any information.
I believe that the Pianola Museum in Amsterdam has some of J.C. Bunge's
Aeolian arrangements, but these are the only extant ones of which I have
any knowledge.
Unfortunately I cannot be more specific regarding which catalogue
contained this information, as my copies are still in storage following
my house move four years ago.
Best wishes from the UK,
Rowland Lee
