Three weeks ago I posted about a Peerless nickelodeon that I looked
at for restoration. It belongs to a piano dealer and rebuilder in
Memphis, Tennessee, who will be doing the piano restoration. There
was a little mystery as to what roll it played. Yesterday I gutted
the piano so that that portion of the restoration could commence.
With all those parts at my shop I was able to figure out the roll
situation. As Art Reblitz suggested, the tracker bar was changed
early on. What is in there is a Link 70-hole bar and it has been
tubed to play an A-roll. This appears to have been done very early.
There is evidence that the hammer rail lift and the mandolin rail
were lock-and-cancel operated, though that part has been removed.
I have concluded that this played the Peerless RR roll, using one
or both of the "Instrument On" holes to activate the mandolin.
