The Morris Museum today announced the gift of a Stella Orchestral
Grand disc musical box by owner, Ethel Schaal of Pittstown, New Jersey.
Standing over seven feet tall, the musical box plays nearly 26-inch
diameter metal discs, featuring a wide array of selections including
classical, popular, folk and patriotic music. The musical box was
acquired by Mrs. Schaal's father in 1928 from a neighbor.
Following conservation, the work is now on view in the Museums
Murtogh D. Guinness Gallery of Mechanical Musical Instruments and
Automata. Demonstrations featuring the rich melodies from this
instrument and others can be heard daily at 2:00 PM.
