Hi, all! Jeffrey Borinsky asked about the QRS roll 2256, in particular
whether the lyrics were original. The answer is yes, Spencer Williams
wrote the song, both lyrics and music, and it was published by Feist
in 1923.
I have sent a scan of the original roll label and the first page of the
published sheet. It's a nice tune, and a great early roll of Waller's
-- he was only 19 years old when he made it. Supposedly James P.
Johnson, who was teaching him at the time, brought him into the QRS
factory to sub for him while he was busy with the show, "Runnin' Wild".
