Last week I visited Nisan Cohen's mechanical music museum at Ein Hod,
an artists' village near Haifa, Israel: http://ein-hod.info/nisco/
It's now difficult to imagine that the whole area suffered a devastating
forest fire in 2010 --

Nisan is a great enthusiast and demonstrated his collection with
aplomb. Even though he was speaking in Hebrew and my knowledge of the
language is minimal it was nearly always obvious what he was talking
about. As a native New Yorker Nisan speaks English but the audience
was mostly non-English speaking.
The collection includes cylinder music boxes, disc boxes whistling
birds, phonographs, a Knabe Ampico a fairground organ and much more.
The museum shop has a good selection of small modern music box
movements including popular Israeli tunes such as Hatikvah (the
national anthem) and Hava Nagilah.
If you're in Israel please go and visit Nisan and his collection.
The rest of the Ein Hod village is also well worth seeing, with many
galleries and public works of art.
