Very true, David! Change for the sake of change is _not_ progress,
it's just "keeping up with the Jones'"!
One thing that I neglected to mention in my previous post on this
subject is that MMD addresses questions on all phases of mechanical
music, not just a single niche. I own an 88-note player, a Duo-Art,
an Ampico, an Aeolian Orchestrelle, and several disc and cylinder music
boxes. All of them fall within the MMD umbrella of mechanical music.
I would have to join at least six additional groups to get the sort
of information contained in MMDigest! Often, information given on one
subject (about a Duo-Art, for example) might assist someone else with
a problem with an Ampico. Using MMD, the Ampico owner will get the
information. Using the "threaded discussion group", he would not.
Just one of the good reasons to keep this format!
