Seek Parts for Cylinder Music Box Movement
By Steve Sukunda
Hey G'day! John Farmer from musicanic suggested I give you a yell.
I am trying to repair my grandmother's music box. I am chasing a
couple of parts and also for a source of future parts if possible.
I am looking for a "Geneva stop" and a ratchet spring. I believe
I am asking for the right thing; I have attached photos as a backup.
You will notice that the finger portion of what I am looking for is
broken off. My grandmother told me while she was alive that it hadn't
worked for a long time; apparently my grandfather tried to fix it.
It is also missing the ratchet spring that sits underneath the gear.
Obviously Granddad had a few spare parts leftover somewhere.
Would you perhaps have these parts for sale, or perhaps point to where
I should be looking to purchase them? Am I asking for the right things?
I did try asking people at some clockmaker forums; they seemed to be
rather insulted that I asked there. I assumed that some parts would
have been quite similar, considering a lot of old time musical box
movements were made by clock makers. John Farmer was at least kind
enough to give me the courtesy of a reply. I am retired and not
enjoying doing nothing so this is my way to at least feel half useful.
