Luke, Doug's offer is very generous and I would figure some way to
avail yourself of the time to do this; perhaps a semester break?
You will _not_ believe the time it will save you, the headaches it
will save you, the missteps it will prevent, and the friendships it
will provide.
Even though I've done many players -- and even charged for my work,
I myself would take up such an offer on an unusual mechanism like yours.
You will learn more in the short four days than you will in months,
maybe years, of posting here and working on your own. Consider it a
"crash course" at college level in player piano rebuilding. By the
way, around here a drive of six hours is a short trip; I sometimes do
service calls two hours away.
Doug, You are an example of the generosity of the player piano
enthusiast community. I applaud your offer to Luke! If he does
accept, post us some pictures of the project!
