Doug, et al, I didn't mean to imply that the Kimball was a bad player,
just that it had more possible problems than the Cable, and of the two
deals, if I were in the marketplace for one, I would go for the Cable
over the Kimball.
I thought the molded "accordion" bellows were used elsewhere too,
like in hammer lift rail and sustain pedal, but I has been a while
since I looked inside one. I suppose one could fabricate a replacement
pneumatic if needed.
I just finished a 1914 Kimball upright player and it is a very high
quality unit, with lots of nickel plating. The worst part was the
damper brass flanges, which are now made of unobtainium, and the
suppliers see no demand to make new ones. I managed to scour enough
replacements to put the action right again.
