I too have listened to most of Tabor's videos on YouTube. I feel sad
also that not one of his survivors ever shared in his joy regarding
mechanical music; this is perhaps why he reached out to share it with
so many. Who knows how many he brought to the life -- and, as any of
you will attest, it is a life, not a hobby.
It is particularly unhappy that not even his wife cared. I grew up
in such a family that hated all that "old sh-t" and was constantly told
that piano rolls "bring mice". They used to tell me that when I grew
up, I would forget it all and become "normal"; well, I am still not
normal and am well into middle age and am still gleeful and contented
with mechanical music and, unlike the unfortunate John Tabor, have a
wife who shares my love.
Thank you to John Tabor for his sharing spirit which has delighted,
and hopefully, will delight many for a long time to come. May he rest
in peace.
Wie schade!
