Robert Heilbuth - Orchestrion Music Arranger
By Marc Sachnoff
Hello All, Among the many interesting posts about Robert Heilbuth
I did not notice any mention of his work on the American Fotoplayer
owned by Richard Reutlinger of San Francisco.
This amazing machine was customized at Richard's request in the
late 1960s or early '70s to make it into a "souped up" nickelodeon.
Heilbuth cut new holes into one of the 88 note tracker bars to provide
orchestration controls. He then added control perforations to over
50 existing 88-note rolls.
The result is quite enjoyable. Heilbuth's arranging prowess comes
through on the many rolls I've had the pleasure of listening to in
Richard's music room. I would highly recommend that any fans of
Heilbuth or of the Fotoplayer check out this singular instrument.
Just listening to how he included the dog bark effect itself brings
a smile!
Warmly from chilly Seattle,
Marc Sachnoff
