I am in need of an Ampico "A" grand on-off power switch -- not the
visible slider but the actual electrical switch itself housed in a cast
iron box with the elongated toggle to attach to the on-off pneumatic.
My switch died yesterday when one of the Bakelite fingers inside the
toggle cracked, in turn tearing the brass contact plate which, when
thrown, actually made the electrical connection. In the process of
investigating the switch, I realized the Bakelite housing was also
cracked. It was a sad day; the day the music died.
I am in immediate need of a replacement switch. I encourage anyone
who has access to disassembled drawer parts to please contact me.
I'm not sure if all grand piano on-off switches are interchangeable,
but here's hoping.
My piano is a late "A" Ampico Symphonique from 1928/9 with the lost
motion compensation. Ideally I would like the entire switch with the
cast-iron box but at the very least I could use just the switch itself
inside its Bakelite housing.
Thank you all very much,
