Dear Robbie, I am the Immediate Past President of the Piano
Technicians Guild (PTG) and I am still on the PTG Board of Directors
for this year. The ivory discussions are currently in a somewhat
finalized position at the Federal level. There was a public comment
period that ended October 28, 2015, regarding the latest proposals
which are, in all probability, the final ones that will be debated
before being published.
That being said, since this is the Fish and Wildlife Regulations we are
talking about, there is no "Federal Law" being enacted despite the fact
that the adopted regulations will have all the teeth of law in the form
of fines and punishments.
There is a second danger to the music industry as individual states
introduce legislation that may be equally or more restrictive than the
Federal regulations.
Thanks for posting the link to the California initiative as it
does impact those living in that state and those who might consider
purchasing an instrument from California. I would recommend that any
other state initiatives be at least mentioned on the list when they are
proposed so that subscribers from that state could have an opportunity
to contact their respective legislators to express any concerns. This
topic can be quite daunting and I appreciate your assistance.
Regards,
Norman Cantrell, RPT, Immediate Past President PTG
