I purchased an 8-tune Swiss music box which I would like to restore.
I have posted several pictures. Can anyone tell me the manufacturer?
When I got it, I lubricated all of the gears and the governor in the
gear cluster to the right of the comb. It will run if I flick the
governor, but will not stay running for long. But when it does run,
all the songs play and it changes over to the next song.
The gear cluster and governor has numerous adjustment screws:
1. One screw on the side of the gear cluster next to the comb on the
left side of the gear housing;
2. One screw that goes straight down and is located between the
governor and the governor upright column which has the jeweled bearing
on top that the governor top axle goes in;
3. One screw on the front that adjusts the governor in and out so that
one can adjust pressure of the mesh of the gear to the governor spiral
gear.
There is also a screw that secures the governor upright column to the
front of the gear housing which I thought might adjust the side to side
movement of the spiral gear, but when I loosened it, I could not move
the upright piece.
There are also some screws on top of the governor column in front of
the jeweled bearing.
Can anyone out there direct me to a tutorial on how to adjust the gear
cluster so that the governor will stay running? Everything seems to be
there and functional. It just needs to be fine tuned so it will start
by itself and keep running on its own.
Also, can anyone give me tips on how to polish the cylinder to a high
shine without damaging the pins?
Thank you.
