Ray Bauer enjoys ragtime music and occasionally plays his small
percussion 'kit' with a ragtime ensemble in Sacramento, Calif.
I asked if he'd ever seen a piano roll of "Sunflower Slow Drag"
and he replied, "Sure, it's right here, and it sounds _great_
when I play it on my Reproduco piano-organ -- the 65-note music
arrangement matches the scale of the Reproduco!"
According to Richard Riley's 1989 "Hot Recut Piano-Rollography",
Hollywood Vintage roll (recut) number 1014 was originally published
as Universal 8479. Also recut by Phil Wenker as Golden Age 181.
The 1901 copyright registration of "Sunflower Slow Drag" says it
was composed by Scott Joplin and Scott Hayden. However, in their
book, "Rags and Ragtime: A Musical History," historians Trebor
Tichenor and Dave Jasen state that everything except the trio was
primarily Hayden's work.
