FS: 1898 Story and Clark "Orpheus" Player Organ
By Ruthann Pieger
I own a circa 1898 Story and Clark "Orpheus" player organ which
I believe to be very rare. The only other ones I have found are
in Great Britain. Since I am getting on in age and contemplating
a move to an apartment, I would like to sell this instrument.
It was completely restored by my father (who was a player piano
restorer) in 1995, and since then has been in my living room and
is in fine condition (it still plays). At the time, my father was
unable to find organ rolls, so he re-configured it to play piano
rolls. This instrument was written up in the ROS Quarterly, Winter
2002 magazine.
I am asking for help in where the best place is to sell it. I would
like to have it sold at a good auction house, but I don't know of one
that deals in mechanical musical instruments in my area, northeastern
Ohio. Or would it be worth it to ship it to some really good place
that deals in this type of item? Or would it be best to list it on
eBay? I do know how to list on eBay. Or any other ideas?
I would like to see it go to a knowledgeable collector. Can you offer
me any help on this subject? Thanks!
