FS Free: 1911 Stroud Pianola in Miami, Florida
By Manny Elgarresta
Hello! I'm the guy with the Stroud Pianola in Miami. I can assure
everyone that there isn't any mold or bad smells emanating from the
piano.
I actually responded to an advertisement from the "original" owner
who was about to just roll it into the street (during a rainstorm,
no less!) and I didn't want to see it destroyed. I spent a few
hundred bucks between moving it and getting it tuned (the tuner says
it's in great shape).
However, I cried "Uncle" since I can't do the work myself and the
quote from the one guy in my area that does this work was that it would
take about $15,000 between the piano, player action and refinishing.
I'm sure the do-it-yourself cost is more like $1000 and 24 months,
but I don't have the space, time or a patient enough wife.
Serial number 25371 puts it around 1911 or so. The one-piece ivory
keytops are in good shape with the exception of middle C and D. The
mechanism is also all there; nothing is missing. My hope is to find
a new home for it. My fear is the more likely outcome of a bulk trash
pickup. This piano has to go in two weeks no matter what.
