Hi, Many years ago I built a new orchestrion for the Ashorne Hall
collection, based on the "O" roll scale. However we utilised the extra
two holes, located between 'A' and '1' and '88' and 'B', so that we
could select independently bells (glockenspiel) and xylophone.
Hole 17 became a general cancel for either glock or xylophone. Hole
14 was used to switch on the flute pipes and hole 13 the reed pipes.
Hole 19 became a general cancel for flutes and reeds. It required
some doctoring of the "O" rolls that we had, but the effect was quite
spectacular. Un-doctored rolls did not work quite as well.
The instrument, as far as I know, is now in Retonio's Magic Gallery in
Degersheim, Switzerland.
Cheers,
Paul Camps
