Estey Player Piano With Amphion Action
By John Phillips

Hello MMD. A few days ago, in 150717 MMDigest, I sent a query about
three small boxes at the back of the spoolbox in an Estey player.
I received no replies except one from an Australian gentleman who,
I think, was surprised to learn that I am still alive. So am I,
some mornings!

However, I went in to Restored Pianos in Hobart this morning, with my
wife's camera, and found that my friend, Jim, had the boxes out of the
player and sitting on the bench. So I took the photo posted at the
link below.

Each box has two pouches therein. Obviously when a pouch is inflated
it will prevent the transfer of a signal from one of the two tubes
associated with that pouch to the other tube. When the pouch is
deflated the signal can pass. But to switch Bass theme and Treble
theme on and off would surely require only two pouches? What is the
point of the other four pouches?
