>[ Could it be a London Steck, built in Gotha, Germany? -- Robbie
Robbie, As this piano is "Steck", not "George Steck", it's going
to be European, built in either Gotha or London depending on age.
"London" Stecks were certainly not built in Gotha, though!
The photos show that it's a Gotha piano of circa 1910-1912 -- the
single-ear tracking era. Earlier models are triple-leg, later models
have twin-ear tracking.
A serial number should be found painted onto the soundboard or stamped
on the wood underneath the front of the soundboard. Numbers in the
30,000 to 60,000 range are Gotha, 100,000 on are London. Single
tracking-ear models are more likely to be Gotha.
Folks keep telling me how rare Pianola grands are in the USA; here you
have an absolute top instrument -- a good piano, the best player action
-- in clean condition.
