I have never had poor service or a communications problem with Melvyn
(not Melville). He has two busker organ websites:
1. The Busker Organ Forum at http://buskerorgan.freeforums.org/
He made a post on the Forum four days ago so I assume he is okay.
2. His "store" at http://www.melright.com/busker/ Make sure you use
the correct URL.
I will echo Craig Smith's suggestion, that you should try "Pipes of
Pan Rolls" from Short Mountain Music Works in Tennessee, run by Brian
Thornton. His URL is http://www.popmusicrolls.com/
Brian Thornton said, "I have been wondering if there is something up
with Melvyn Wright. About three months ago I have been starting to get
orders from England and Europe."
That is probably because Brian's prices are about half that of European
roll producers. I bought a roll from Brian, and I am very pleased with
it. There are significant differences between Melvyn's and Brian's
products:
1. The tunes come from different arrangers. Much of Melvyn's selection
is his own top-notch work. Brian has some rolls by Hiddo van Os, who
can't be topped for Dutch style street organ music.
2. Melvyn punches rolls on plastic, Brian on paper. I would expect
a Melvyn Wright roll to last "forever," even if you play in the rain.
3. Brian sells set rolls of tunes, Melvyn allows you to pick and choose
the tunes and their order.
4. Brian may take a week or more to ship a roll since he punches all
formats on one machine. Melvyn typically punches and ships within
about 48 hours of receiving an email.
My recommendation? Buy rolls from both of them; everyone needs variety.
