Hi MMD, After many months and dozens of emails and phone calls
I have located a source for piano roll end tab material and D rings.
The tab material is a matte black vinyl, slightly heavier and tougher
than the white vinyl pull tab material that was sold by Player Piano
Company (PPCo).
The adhesive is a permanent pressure-sensitive type superior to that
found on the PPCo tabs. The D-rings are 3/8-inch nickel plated and are
the best quality I've seen in my 35 years of working with piano rolls.
I have acquired a die cutter that produces a sheet of 12 tabs exactly
like that sold by PPCo. The least quantity of the vinyl material that
the manufacturer will sell will produce 24,000 pull tabs. I have 5500
D-rings on hand and inquiries about ordering more.
I had planned from the onset of this project to market these end tabs
to roll manufacturers on a quantity basis. The small market for the
hobbyist roll repair person would not justify the time and money
invested. However, the larger sales will enable me to sell in smaller
quantities to the hobbyist. What I would appreciate now is some
feedback from the roll manufacturers who read MMD. What should be the
price of lots of 1000 end tabs with D-rings?
Thanks,
Tom Hutchinson
