FS: Early Louis XV Steinway Duo-Art in California
By Don Teach
I now know the Steinway Duo-Art grand I have been told about is an XR
in a Louis XV case, serial number 239713, which means it was made in
what piano rebuilders refer to as the "Golden Era of piano building."
An XR Duo-Art is a Steinway M model with an extended case to house
the player parts. These Steinway M models from this era in plain
cases typically sell for around six thousand dollars in un-restored
condition. It was one of the most popular size pianos they made and
still make today. I have looked at photos of the instrument and
believe it to have been retubed in the mid nineteen-seventies.
Otherwise is it a clean unrestored Steinway.
The piano broker dealer who has this piano wants $7,500 or best offer
for this piano. Considering it is a rare art case (which bring much
more money) then I think his price is fair. He will deliver at that
price to a commercial address anywhere in the U.S.A. It is currently
located in California. Contact me and I will try to help. It needs
to remain a player piano and be appreciated!
