Good evening from London! You may remember me from a few weeks ago.
I'm a film maker currently working on a short film about mechanical
music. I shared with the MMD a link to my Kickstarter campaign:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/897162780/automatic-music-a-short-film
and the response has been _outstanding!_
I have just returned home from shooting part of the film at the
Reuge factory in Switzerland to the absolutely incredible news that
the target has been reached! I'm completely overwhelmed with the
generosity of the mechanical music community. So I just want to say
a huge, massive thank you! Your support has enabled this project to
go ahead, and I'm thrilled to see it all coming together.
There's still 14 days left to donate, and I want to raise as much as
possible. £1,200 means that this film can be made, but here is why
I still need to continue fund-raising:
1) There are still two locations / scenarios to be filmed:
a) The workshop space of a musical box restorer;
b) The studio space where a reproducing piano will be filmed.
I have budgeted for the absolute minimum amount of funds to enable
these two shoots to go ahead, but increasing these funds could enable
the rental of superior filming equipment, and buy us more time to shoot
these important areas, which would in turn boost the production value
of the finished film.
2) Presently all crew members are working for free. Being able to pay
them, even a minimal token payment, would act as a thank you for their
extremely hard work and dedication to the project. Both the camera man
and sound recordist took 3 days off from their jobs to come out to work
on the project in Switzerland. They have also given up a number of
weekends for the UK-based shoots. Being able to give something back
to them would boost their enthusiasm for the project further, and in
turn secure an even higher quality finished product!
And last, but by no means least, an update on my Instagram
account of myself shooting at the Reuge Factory has been posted at
https://instagram.com/p/3RO6CmsdTe/?taken-by=florryken Since then
I have received interest from the desk at BBC Europe, who would like
to run a story, a written piece which would appear on the BBC website,
using video content from my short film as well as interviews, focusing
on musical boxes and my trip to Switzerland to film at the factory!
This will be a great bit of exposure for musical boxes and mechanical
music; all very early stages but looking positive. I'm feeling very
privileged to be able to help promote automatic music to a new
audience. So please tell your friends, and any mechanical music
enthusiasts about this project -- spread the word! And thank you
again, so much, to everyone who has kindly donated so far.
Warmest regards,
Florence Kennard
