Hello there, I have picked up a Gulbransen player grand with a drawer.
I'm still searching for the serial number; it's not in the usual
places. This is a "Recordo" expression piano, with gate legs, and in
lovely order. However, someone has kindly removed the rotary pump.
The area to accommodate the pump is quite large, about 17" square,
which makes me think that it definitely had a rotary box pump.
I suspect that it was enclosed in a steel framework brace -- the outline
and screw holes are still quite visible. I suspect the spill valve was
part of the rotary pump and of course is gone. It's a damn shame, as
the piano is in fantastic order and someone has really looked after it
well. I do have an electric motor for the player, but it's no good on
it's own.
Does anyone know of _any_ rotary pump for sale? Or can you provide any
information (approx. year) of Gulbransen grand player with a drawer?
Any information would be very much appreciated. Are there any rotary
pumps out there for sale?
I did think about buying a modern suction box to put in it's place, but
I think the noise would spoil the music as the belly cloth has also
disappeared.
Kind regards,
Andrew Lund - Piano Technician
