Unknown Player in 1916 Estey Upright Piano
By Paul Manganaro

Please help identify this player mechanism. It is an Estey upright
foot pumper from 1916. My guess is a Jacob Doll player mechanism but
this doesn't match up with the initials "ST" cast in the rubber player
mats. The owners want to keep the piano and would like to know more
about it. It's a very high quality piano.

It has a lever located underneath the keybed to lower the player
pedals. The lever works rods with two sets of heavy duty bevel-gears.
Once the pedals begin to drop they engage a mechanism attached to the
inside of the bottom board which slowly drops the pedals the rest of
the way down.

The stack pneumatics push downward in the front working levers which
rock underneath the stack. There are governors on each side of the
pump that work from mechanical buttons for soft treble/bass.
