Ref. Carl Wright's request for information on tune title for Regina
disc No. 3001. The title of the disc number 3001 is "Tuck Me To Sleep
In My Old 'Tucky Home".
This song was written in 1921 and was the first disc produced by
Octave Chaillet, Regina's music arranger, after Regina went bankrupt.
The new numbering system for Chaillet's new 15-1/2-inch discs started
with 3000 and this title was apparently the first. They always appear
on very thin light brown colored (possibly copper coated) sheet metal.
I have never seen a tune list for these very late discs and have
personally seen only about a half dozen titles in the 3000 series
numbering system for this very late period.
Regina apparently gave Chaillet many original disc master plates and
a small disc punch press when they re-organized and got completely out
of the disc music box field in the early 1920's. Chaillet continued to
recut the most popular titles and make a few newly arranged discs, and
do Regina music box repairs for an unknown period of time.
This is the group of original Regina equipment, parts and supplies that
Lloyd Kelley bought from Chaillet's son in 1940. Lloyd continued to
supply recut discs and a few new arrangements (mostly Christmas tunes)
after that time until he sold the business, shortly before his death,
to a fellow named Harry Carmell (sp?) in Illinois, who apparently never
did anything with it. But Dwight Porter (among others) and his
talented group, have more than filled the gap for old favorites and
hundreds of new arrangements for the this most popular 15-1/2-inch disc
music box size. I hope this information helps you out.
Best regards,
Steve Boehck
