Ivory Sale and Possession in New York State
By Rob Goodale
In regards to ivory controls in New York State, this is yet another
example of the government (that was intended to serve "we the people")
completely fallen to the mighty grips of environmental groups who
couldn't tell the difference between a piece of ivory and a donut.
I now salvage as much ivory as I can get my hands on. Not long ago
I actually salvaged a set of ivory keys in perfect condition from
a grand piano in someone's driveway sitting in the rain! Over the
years I have smashed up and thrown out dozens of worthless pianos and
I know that many of them had ivory. At the time it wasn't economical
to salvage them but today I cringe at the thought of all the white
gold I threw away.
The local piano dealer has agreed to alert me of any junk trade-in
pianos he gets so that I can rescue the ivory before they are dumped.
Since we now must deal with the "ivory police", keep whatever you
have under wraps. In another decade it will be reclassified as a
"controlled substance" and we will be selling instruments in dark
alleys on the bad side of town!
