Replacing Hammers on 1930 Fischer Ampico Grand
By Rob Buskop

Dear MMDers, I'm presently working on the piano action of a 5'4"
Fischer Ampico Model B of around 1930. The hammer shanks and hammers
in this instrument have been renewed at some time in the past.

Since the touchweight of this piano is very heavy (approximately
60 grams), I would be very grateful if somebody could help me with
a solid prescription for the hinge-pin to centre-knuckle distance for
this piano. Your input will be greatly appreciated!

[ Grand piano hammers became harder, heavier and louder when grand
[ piano production resumed after World War Two. Quite often worn
[ hammers were replaced without attempting to match the original
[ hammers, which is especially important if the reproducing piano is
[ to play as well as it did when new. I hope somebody can measure
[ the original J. & C. Fischer grand piano hammers for Mr. Buskop.
