Wind & Vacuum Pressures of Band & Fair Organs
By Michael Jones

I am attempting to assemble a chart listing the measured pressures of
wind in the windchest of band and fairground organs by make and model.
Of particular interest (but not to exclude other organs) are the
pressures measured at the windchest and/or the pressure reservoir
of any organs made by Wurlitzer, North Tonawanda Musical Instrument
Works, Gavioli, Bruder Brothers, Wilhelm Bruder Sohne, Ruth, Verbeeck,
or Frati.

Additionally, in those organs also employing a vacuum system, I am
interested in assembling a second chart listing the vacuum pressure
measured at the vacuum reservoir.

I would greatly appreciate any information along these lines, including
(but not limited to) a listing of the make and model number of the
organ, the approximate year of construction of the organ, its pressure
measured at the windchest or pressure reservoir stating the method of
measurement (i.e., pounds per square inch, pounds per square foot,
inches of water, inches of air, etc.) and the location of the
measurement (i.e., windchest or pressure reservoir).

Additionally, in those organs also employing a vacuum system, I would
like information concerning the vacuum pressure measured at the vacuum
reservoir and the method of measurement (pounds per square inch, pounds
per square foot, inches of water, inches of air, etc.)

I propose to assemble all gathered information in the form of two
charts with columns listing the make, model, and approximate year of
construction, the wind pressure measured at the pressure reservoir, the
wind pressure measured at the windchest (two separate columns, listing
each organ's measurements in the appropriate column/columns along with
the method of measurement), an additional column in which all measured
pressures would be converted to one standard method of pressure
measurement, and a final column listing the reference (i.e., the name
and/or e-mail of the person sending the information).

In the second chart of vacuum measurements I purpose to assemble all
gathered information in the form of a second chart with columns listing
the make, model, and year of construction, the vacuum pressure measured
at the vacuum reservoir along with it's method of measurement, an
additional column in which all measured pressures would be converted to
one standard method of pressure measurement, and a final column listing
the reference source (i.e., the name and/or e-mail of the person
sending the information).

Conversions of the pressures will not be a problem as a great online
conversion method already exists: http://www.onlineconversion.com/pressure

After these two charts have been assembled and checked for accuracy
(which will take some time) I would then submit them online to MMD for
use by any individual desiring this information.

Thanks for your time and effort in this endeavor.

Mike Jones
