Thanks for all the advice from my question about the inner lining
for a pressure pump. For those not familiar with a Cremona G, the
pump supplies both vacuum and pressure. The one we are rebuilding is
the original, and was still working fairly well except for one of the
4 sections. So the question has never been "Does it need stiffeners?"
The reason for asking about the inner line of leather is that this
apparently gives a weaker bond to the wood. Perhaps because of the age
of the leather it split rather easily leaving one surface on the wood,
and one on the motor cloth. The bond to the wood on the surface of the
leather was stronger than the leather was internally.
Someone suggested cotton cloth might be an acceptable substitute for
the leather on the outer edge of the liner where it would bond to the
wood on one side and the motor cloth on the other. Actually one of the
pressure reservoirs was built that way, and it was much harder to get
it apart, so I now lean in that direction.
Again, thanks for all the advice.
